Just a 5-minute walk from the town of Czorsztyn (following the blue trail leading to Trzy Korony), you will find a true gem - Majerz Meadow. It is a vast meadow with a breathtaking view of the lake and the Tatra Mountains. The charming Shepherd's Hut at the beginning of the meadow offers delicious cheeses and whey - a byproduct of sheep's milk, from May to October. If you're lucky, you might come across grazing sheep and friendly and beautiful herding dogs (Ps. one of them is named HarnaĹ› :)).
Shepherd's Hut
At the shepherd's hut on the meadow, you can buy cheeses such as oscypek and bundz. It is also worth trying żętyca - whey made from sheep's milk. It is rich and very filling. In the past, it was the main food for highlanders and herding dogs. It is interesting to see how the cheeses are made, although the smoke can sting your eyes. The whey is heated over a burning fire in the hut, called watra by the highlanders. The decorative pattern on the cheeses is created using a wooden mold made of two parts, called oscypiorka, hence the name oscypek. Sheep Grazing
The meadow serves as a grazing area for sheep. During the months when the sheep are grazing, you can encounter friendly herding dogs herding the sheep into the enclosure. Cows are also grazed here.
Scenic Views
The meadow is a great place to lazily bask in the sun and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can come here, for example, to watch the sunset. From the meadow, you can admire the panoramic view of the entire lake, the castles in Czorsztyn and Nidzica, and in the distance, the Tatra Mountains.
Morning Mist
The meadow is located on a trail leading from Czorsztyn to Trzy Korony. When we set out on the trail early in the morning, the whole area was engulfed in mist - the view (or rather the lack of it ;) was incredible and very atmospheric.
