D艂ugosz House, also known as the Sandomierz Diocesan Museum, is a place where you can encounter the city's history in its various forms. Several museum halls house true treasures, as well as many surprising curiosities.
What can we see in D艂ugosz House?
In line with the museum's character, primarily religious exhibits are presented here: historical church equipment, sculptures, medieval books, bishop's robes, etc.
The museum's greatest treasure, displayed in a separate room on the ground floor, is the Grunwald Cross from 1343 with the reliquary of the Holy Cross Tree.
D艂ugosz House - attractions
A surprising "attraction" during the tour of the exhibition in D艂ugosz House is the combination of religious exhibits, works of art and craft treasures with very surprising objects, which certainly do not come to our mind when we think of a "Diocesan Museum".
This arrangement of the exhibition shows how the museum was created. It is based on the private collections of Father J贸zef Rokoszny and Father Jan Wi艣niewski. The variety of exhibits reveals the very idea of "collecting": gathering various larger and smaller treasures.
Pots of medieval ducats, books about tree species made from the appropriate wood:
...the oldest Polish chest positive and the oldest Polish piano:
...elephant feet, Napoleon's hair, a roll from the Swedish Deluge:
Tracking these unusual curiosities in the museum halls is an additional attraction for museum visitors!
