Czary Napary is a unique, interactive museum of herbs, herbalism, and herbal medicine. Its patron is the famous resident of Sandomierz: Marcin from Urz臋d贸w - a priest, doctor, botanist, and herbalist. The entire exhibition can be seen as an expansion of the master's passion and research.

Living in the 16th century, Marcin from Urz臋d贸w was interested in herbs, cultivated them in a herbarium (see: Dom D艂ugosza >>>), and most importantly: he wrote a great work titled a richly illustrated encyclopedia: Polish Herbal or the nature of various herbs and trees and other things related to medicine, in two books, published after his death, in 1595 in Krakow.
In the Sandomierz museum "Czary Napary" you will see one of the few preserved original copies of the work of Marcin from Urz臋d贸w. You will also meet the master himself!
Czary Napary - what will we see in the museum of herbs and herbalism in Sandomierz?
After getting acquainted with the book and its author, we can move on. Ahead of us are several rooms and a multitude of interactive stations, where we will learn about the action of various plants: both medicinal and toxic.
A separate room (causing strong emotions in everyone!) is dedicated to poisons and the history of poisoning.
Small rooms on the upper floor are dedicated to further curiosities: of course, everything revolves around plants, folk medicine, aphrodisiacs, and natural cosmetics.
Finally, we reach modern times: plants in our kitchen and in the bathroom, or the "home spa". We will even learn a few secrets of stars to maintain a beautiful appearance!
Czary Napary Herbal Museum - attractions
The museum is very cleverly arranged: we not only watch, listen, but also play with knowledge about plants and their properties. We can take funny photos, solve puzzles and various tasks. We visit at our own pace, we can devote as much attention to individual places as we want.
Czary and Napary for children
Most importantly for the youngest: we can touch everything, open doors, pull out drawers, watch, eavesdrop, smell, etc.
With the youngest in mind, a special "forest" room was also created, where we collect stamps with edible mushrooms. It is also an excellent, secluded space for rest, relaxation, or arranging a break in sightseeing.
Visiting Czary Napary - practical information
- the museum is located on several levels in one of the houses at the Market Square
- due to the stairs, we won't be able to visit the museum with a stroller
- we enter the museum with a group. A guide explains what we will find in the museum, how to use the individual stations, after which we visit individually, each at their own pace (there is no time limit for staying in the museum)
- reserve at least 1 hour for the visit (but you can spend much more time here!)
- there is a museum shop and toilet at the entrance.
